Life Insurance contracts can be complicated, and they are not all created the same. Advertised rates are usually exaggerated or not really what they seem.
The following Facebook advertisement popped into my feed yesterday. Curious and skeptical, I ran life insurance illustrations using the same parameters indicated in the advertisement.
Twenty-nine quotes* (29) came in less than the advertised $29/month “starting” rate. Six of them were under $18 a month.
For something as important as formulating a Life Insurance Plan, take the time to schedule a full, careful life insurance needs review. Utilize an independent insurance agent who actually writes a lot of life insurance. Keep in mind that most insurance agents hold a life license. But most of those agents write only one or two cases a year, if that.
Seek out a qualified agent.
Question them on their life insurance experience. How much life insurance do they write each year? Ask for referrals. Do they focus on just one product or niche, or do they offer a wide array of solutions depending on the needs of each client?
And remember that quotes are just that. Quotes are best guesses based on minimal information, subject to underwriting review.
Cheaper isn’t always better.
Consider what you may need in the future. Needs change. How flexible is the product? What are your options with the product twenty years from now? How will you make changes as needed, do you have someone to help you or will you have to go it alone? Can you call your agent, or an 800 number? If you are no longer physically or mentally capable of managing your policy, how easy or difficult will it be for your family to do so?
