What if my prescription drugs change in the middle the year?

I am on Medicare, what if my prescriptions change in the middle of a calendar year?

You really do not need to do anything, except have your new prescription sent to your pharmacy and present your prescription card.

Whether you signed up for either a stand along prescription drug plan (PDP) or if your prescription drug coverage is part of a Medicare Advantage plan, regardless of how your scripts change throughout the year you really do not have to do anything different.

At your Medicare appointment, we enter the medications that you are currently taking, enter your preferred pharmacy and find the plan that fits you at that moment in time.

Even though the medications and the preferred pharmacy are entered at the time of the appointment, it DOES NOT lock you into those scripts.  It is just to help us determine what is the best plan for you at that time.  So, if your medications change or you want to change to a different pharmacy, neither of these are issues.

Drug prices can and do change from year to year.  Therefore, we encourage our clients who have a stand alone prescription drug plans to give a call or set up an appointment each year during the Annual Enrollment (October 15- Dec 7) to review their current PDP’s.  Even if you have not had a medication change, it is a good practice to review these policies every year to make sure you are still in the best plan.
