Too many agents today are order takers. A consumer comes into the office with their insurance policies and the agent checks rates with all of their companies and provides an “apples to apples” quote comparison. With any luck, they have the lowest premium. This worries me to no end.
What concerns me is that the “apples to apples” mindset bypasses any type of risk and needs analysis. This approach perpetuates glaring coverage issues in hopes of having the lowest price.
The major national carriers haven’t helped matters with the billions they spend annually on advertising and pushing “lowest price” above all else mantra.
But I ask…what good has it done if you saved 15% on premiums, yet it cost you tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands in uncovered losses? Sound far fetched? It’s very real.
