When I turn 65, do I automatically enroll into Medicare?
If you receive Social Security, Railroad Retirement, or disability benefits, you will be enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B automatically.
Before your 65th birthday or 24th month of disability, you will receive an Initial Enrollment Package. This includes Medicare details, a questionnaire, and your Medicare card. To have both Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical insurance), sign your Medicare card and keep it in your wallet.
If you don’t want Part B coverage, mark an X in the refusal box on the back of the Medicare card form. Then sign it and return it with the card to Social Security. You will then receive a new Medicare card indicating only Part A coverage.
It’s always best to speak with a licensed insurance agent who is also Medicare certified. This is important in learn more about options such as Medicare Supplements, Part D Prescription Drug plans, and Medicare Advantage plans.
