Should my spouse and I be on the same type of Medicare plan?
In short, no.
Medicare beneficiaries are free to select the plans of their choosing.
When working with a licensed insurance agent, information is collected for the individual with respect to their unique health insurance needs, then options are presented that include plans to best meet those specific needs. For example, a Medicare Supplement plan with a stand-alone prescription drug plan may be a solid choice for someone who needs to fill gaps in their original Medicare coverage.
Alternately, a Medicare Advantage plan that includes prescription drug coverage may be a smart choice.
Education is key when it comes to reviewing Medicare options.
Meeting with an agent who is knowledgeable will be time well spent. From personal experience, there have been many times we find that one individual has a better fit with a plan that differs from their spouse.

Medicare has changed over the years to meet the needs of seniors. Changes in coverage options, provider plans, international coverage, and prescription drug coverage have all changed and not all are available in the same plan.
